Finally the suspense has been lifted. The next Android has been named after the desert marshmallow and so Android M is officially Android Marshmallow now. And for the ambiguity regarding the version number, it is Android 6.0! Though this part of the news(the version number of Android M) hasn;t been given out by any sort of announcement by Google, the new developer preview 3 which was uploaded today bore the version number 6.0.
And as for more proof, this third developer preview of Android Marshmallow to Nexus devices is showing the version number as Android 6.0 in the Settings page. Also, there is a whole blog post on Android Developers blog mentioning Android 6.0. So, do we need more proof?

As for the Marshamallow name, Google employee Alex Ruiz has posted the picture yesterday of a latest Android statue holding a marshmallow near Google building 43. The picture above is the same one and added to it, Google also posted a video of 50 seconds to show the unveiling of the new Android statue.
Personally saying, the Marshmallow statue does not look as colorful and is definitely not as eye candy as was the Android Lollipop statue, but it is not also that bad. Is it?
