Sony has started working with the Android 5.0 Lollipop AOSP(Android Open Source Project) builds on its Xperia flagship models – The Xperia Z1, Z2 and Z3. Sony has also released a video showing them off.
The developer promotion from Sony says that, these builds are not intended for end users/daily use and they mean that full functionality and reliability of these builds is not guaranteed. The biggest derivative of these builds on the Xperia devices is that, it can be seen as a good starting point to build custom ROMs.
Sony also promises that Android 5.0 Lollipop will be pushed to all the Xperia Z series devices from the beginning of 2015.
“We know there’s probably a few of you itching to get AOSP 5.0 running on unlocked Xperia devices, so we’re working to provide updated versions of the necessary binary files as soon as we can”, they mentioned in a blog post.
So that is some good news to custom ROM developers out there, and watch out for those binary files Sony has promised to release as we will keep you updated with the latest news.
