Micromax Windows phone 8It seems that Micromax is all set to launch its two new phones that run on Windows 8.1 mobile operating system in India in the next week, perhaps on Monday at the Micromax Press Conference in New Delhi.

The Times Of India says that one of the two devices might be in the price range of  Rs.6,000 – 7,000 ($100 -$117) and the other might be in the price range of Rs.10,000 – 11,000 ($167 -$184), with the exact specifications of the devices still unknown. Both these devices will be under its Canvas Brand.

It is being said that Micromax will launch a smartphone featuring Windows mobile operating system with 5-inch full HD display, Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB RAM, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, 16GB internal storage and a microSD slot. But this device is not expected to be one of those that will be launched next week.

Micromax will be the first of the companies to globally launch Windows Phone 8.1 powered smartphone after the launch of Nokia Lumia 630 in April, this year.

The company also announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in December 2013 that it plans on launching LapTab – a device that runs on dual OS (Android+ Windows). However, there have been no further updates regarding the status of the product.

Microsoft announced its partnership with Micromax at the BUILD 2014 Conference in April, this year where it also unveiled its latest Windows Phone 8.1. Microsoft also lifted the license fee for Windows Phone and in order to take their OS to a large number people and expand their users, the software giant is working with a number of locally strong phone companies in different companies. Microsoft has also announced nine other phone making companies – Lava(Xolo), Foxconm Gionee, JSR, Karbonn, LG, Longcheer and ZTE – that were partnering with it to produce Windows Phone devices.Lava and Karbonn are expected to roll out their Windows Phone devices later this year which might be in the price range of Rs.6,000 – 12,000.
