windows xp end

Microsoft recently announced that it ends its support for Windows XP soon (on April 8th,2014).

What does end of Windows XP support mean?

Ending of support indicates that technical assistance for Windows XP will no longer be available, which also includes the end of automatic updates that help protect our PC(running on Windows XP). On and after 8thApril,2014,Microsoft will stop providing the download of Microsoft Security Essentials. If you already have a PC running with Windows XP which has Microsoft Security Essentials installed on it, you would be able to use it for a limited time but you receive no updates.

So this explains to us that even after the end of windows XP support from Microsoft, you would still be able to run your PC installed with Windows XP, but problem of having many new malwares/viruses entering into the Operating System(OS) cannot be resolved.Hence, further protection of your PC becomes difficult if it still continues to run with Windows XP.

How to overcome..

To overcome this problem of protection after end of Windows XP support, Microsoft is providing us two ways:

1)Upgrading the existing Windows XP to the newer Windows 8.1:

Windows 8.1 is the newer version of windows provided by Microsoft. But before upgrading your PC to Windows 8.1, you need to check if your PC can be able to meet the requirements of Windows 8.1 OS. To check if your PC is compatible for installing Windows 8.1, Microsoft suggests using Windows Upgrade Assistant.

A tutorial guide is provided in the below link if the PC hardware supports:

2)What if PC hardware is not compatible for Windows 8.1:

If after running Windows Upgrade Assistant, if you find that your current PC does not meet the system requirements for installing Windows 8.1, then you have to buy a new PC. This happens in the case of older computers, which do not have the required hardware to run Windows 8.1

Problem for Cell phone repair technicians:

Most of the third party unlocking softwares of mobile phones are given compatibility  to Windows XP which may not run or give  problems with windows 8.1. So the vendors of these third party mobile phone unlocking applications have to provide the compatibility to newer version of Windows.
